ALBANY – Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman issued the following statement on new ticket legislation, Bill S6931C, passed by the New York State Senate this afternoon:

“I applaud the Senate’s decision to increase fairness in the ticketing industry by passing legislation that will impose criminal penalties on unscrupulous ticket brokers who use ‘bots’ to cut the line for tickets and edge out fans. Ordinary New Yorkers deserve a fair shot to see their favorite performers and teams, and protection from those that use illegal software to rig the system. The new legislation also requires that ticket resale platforms like StubHub and TicketsNow allow resellers to clearly disclose ticket face value prices along with resale prices.  After investigating troubling ticketing practices, my office proposed these reforms and a number of others in a January 2016 report. My office will continue to enforce laws governing tickets to ensure fair opportunities for all, and I call on the Assembly to pass similar consumer protections.
