NEW YORK—Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman issued the following statement on the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Evenwel V. Abbott:
“The bedrock principle of one-person-one-vote is vital to ensuring the American ideals of justice and equality. As the friend-of-the-court brief my office filed along with 20 other states makes clear, our democracy should represent the interests of all – even those who cannot vote. By unanimously upholding the ability of states to rely on total population counts in apportioning electoral power, the Supreme Court has helped safeguard fair and effective representation for all.”
