Schneiderman: President’s Obama Executive Actions Stand to Provide Millions Of Undocumented Immigrants The Opportunity To Come Out Of The Shadows
NEW YORK—Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman released the following statement in response to yesterday’s ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, upholding the injunction blocking implementation of Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA) and expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) in Texas v. United States, a legal challenge by Texas and other states to the President’s authority to take executive action on immigration.
“President Obama’s executive actions on immigration stand to help address our broken immigration system and provide millions of undocumented immigrants the opportunity to come out of the shadows and stop living in fear. I am disappointed in the Fifth Circuit’s ruling, which has implications for many immigrant families here in New York State and across the country. My office will continue to defend the President’s efforts to extend work authorization to people who are already living here. States and immigrant families have waited long enough for relief and the 5th Circuit’s ruling leaves New Yorkers in a state of limbo.”
